Empowering Women Through Dairy Farming Training

How our dairy training sessions are giving women in Mbale District new tools and new confidence.

Across the communities we work with, women play a central role in day-to-day dairy management — feeding, milking, and caring for the herd. Our training programs are built around that reality, giving women practical, hands-on skills rather than abstract theory.

Sessions cover the essentials: balanced feeding, hygienic milking practices, and basic herd health monitoring. The goal isn’t just better milk quality — it’s giving participants the confidence and know-how to manage a sustainable enterprise on their own terms.

From Training to Independence

Several participants have gone on to expand their herds or start small dairy enterprises of their own, using what they learned in our workshops as a starting point. It’s a reminder that sustainable agriculture isn’t just about processes — it’s about people.

Looking Ahead

We plan to expand these sessions to reach more women across our farmer network, with a continued focus on practical, repeatable skills that improve both milk quality and household income.
